Why supplements are important for health, especially as we age.
Aging changes how the we absorb and process nutrients, how the body maintains muscle, repairs tissue, regulates hormones, and protects against disease. Supplements can help fill nutritional gaps, but they work best when combined with healthy habits. They are not a substitute, but a valuable tool.
Studies have shown that as people get older, several biological changes happen:
1) The stomach may absorb fewer nutrients, especially vitamin B12, iron, calcium, and magnesium.
2) Muscle mass naturally declines (called sarcopenia).
3) Bone density decreases, increasing fracture risk.
4) Appetite often decreases, leading to lower protein and micronutrient intake.
5) Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress tend to rise.
6) Certain medications interfere with nutrient absorption.
7) Mitochondria can become less efficient, resulting in reduced brain function and decreased energy.
It’s always a good idea to check with your physician when considering a supplement regimen, as they may sometimes interact with prescribed medication. In general, however, they serve as a great tool for maintaining a healthy body, as well as supporting cognitive function. It is my personal mission to provide quality supplements that can assist in healthy aging. The fact that you’re reading this means that you are ready to take action to create a more vibrant “you”.
